COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's hockey coach Chris Davidson has announced that Doug Wright, who played four years at Providence College, will serve as the program's top assistant coach, and Lou DiMasi III, a four-year standout at Norwich University, will become the team's second assistant coach.
"I am very excited to be joining such a respected school in Saint Michael's College, and I feel fortunate in joining Coach Davidson's elite hockey program," said Wright.
"I am honored to be a part of the Saint Michael's coaching staff and to have the opportunity to assist Coach Davidson," said DiMasi. "I grew up watching and admiring the Purple Knights while my father coached for 25 years, and now to be a part of the program and give back is a thrill for me."
Wright brings an impressive resume to the Saint Michael's hockey
program. He played four years for the NCAA Division I main
stay Providence Friars of the Hockey East Association from
1999-2003. Wright played three professional seasons after
college, including two years with the Las Vegas Wranglers and one
with the Augusta (Ga.) Lynx, both of the East Coast Hockey League.
Wright also has experience at the American Hockey League level,
playing two stints with the Chicago Wolves and the Portland (Maine)
Pirates. In his rookie professional season, Wright was the first
20-goal scorer in Las Vegas Wrangler history, and also led the team
in game-winning goals.
Prior to attending Providence, Wright played one season for the
Lebret Eagles of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). In
his lone season, Wright led his team in goals and was named Rookie
of the Year in the SJHL.
A 2004 graduate of Norwich, DiMasi was a two-time first team All-American and two-time captain for the NCAA Division III Cadets. He helped lead his team to three ECAC East and three NCAA Frozen Four appearances, highlighted with a 2003 NCAA National Championship.
Following graduation, DiMasi had a four-year professional playing career playing for the Augusta Lynx in 2004-05, the Macon (Ga.) Trax of the Southern Professional Hockey League in 2004-05, the Utah Grizzlies in (ECHL) in 2005-06, HYS the Hague - Holland (Dutch Elite) in 2006-07 (where he served as assistant captain), and Vipiteno Bronco's (Italian A2) in 2007-08.
Currently, DiMasi is a graduate student at Saint Michael's working as a Resident Director, and also served as the Purple Knights' golf coach in 2008.
DiMasi, a native of Burlington, Vt., is the son of former 25-year Saint Michael's men's hockey coach Lou DiMasi.
"I am looking forward to working with both Doug and Lou this upcoming season," said Davidson. "Both will bring experience and energy to our program as we continue to move forward."
