Lebanon Valley College hung with the nation's 11th-ranked team,
but gave up two late goals as it fell to Hobart, 4-1, at
Hersheypark Arena.
The Dutchmen (0-7-0, 0-3-0 ECAC West) were within a goal until the
Statesmen (5-2-0, 1-1-0 ECAC West) scored two unanswered goals in
the third period.
Netminder Rich Drazin was outstanding for LVC, making 49 saves
including some spectacular stops late in the game. Keith Longo made
22 saves for Hobart.
Hobart led 53-23 on shots, and both teams were 0-for-7 on power
plays.
Hobart scored first on Nick DeCroo's goal at 12:55 of the first, as
he took a pass from Anthony Scarpino and moved across the goalface
to rip off the goal.
Andrew Brennan made it 2-0 midway through the second period with a
vicious slap shot from the point just as an LVC penalty
expired.
The Dutchmen pulled within 2-1 on Nick Schultz's tip of Matt
Conroy's blast at 16:10 of the 2nd, energizing the crowd and the
team.
LVC came out in the third period with several outstanding chances
as they search for the equalizer, but Hobart immediately killed
LVC's momentum on DeCroo's second goal at 4:54.
The Statesmen tacked on their fourth midway through the third when
Kyle Whitaker took the puck in front off a defensive miscue and
buried it.
LVC will be back at the Arena Saturday to host #5 Elmira at 3:30
p.m. That game will be preceded by the annual Alumni Game at 1:45
p.m.
