Junior forward Phil LaBreck (Thornton, N.H./John Stark Regional) scored twice, including the
game-winning goal, and added an assist on Friday night as the Franklin
Pierce University ice hockey team scored five power-play goals to post a
6-2 victory over Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference and ECAC
Northeast play at The Winchendon School Ice Arena. Senior forward Frank
Bova (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and junior defenseman Jon
Retelle (Monmouth, Maine/Portland Jr. Pirates) each scored in defeat for
Assumption.

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring with the only goal of the first
period on the power play at the 17:22 mark. Senior forward Jeff Kasper
(South Boston, Mass./Catholic Memorial) retrieved the puck amidst
traffic in the slot and fed it to sophomore forward Sean Woodring (Rogue
River, Ore./Rogue River) who scored his first goal of the season from
the bottom of the right circle to give the Ravens a lead they would
never relinquish.

The Ravens increased the lead to 5-0 with four power-play goals in the
second period. Junior forward Casey Goodell (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding)
got things started when he jammed the rebound of a Woodring shot into
the net from the right side of the net for his second goal of the season
4:15 into the period. LaBreck followed with the eventual game-winning
goal on a two-man advantage at the 8:18 mark with his first goal of the
season off a feed from senior forward Jay Stempniak (West Seneca,
N.Y./St. Francis HS). Just 1:19 after LaBreck's goal, freshman forward
Nate Schursky (Scottsdale, Ariz./Eugene Generals) struck for his first
career goal when he punched home a rebound on the right side. LaBreck
and sophomore defenseman Sean Carroll (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Thunder
Ridge) were credited with assists. LaBreck capped the scoring frenzy
with his second goal of the period at the 19:36 mark when he scored from
the high slot of a centering pass from Kasper.

Assumption would get as close as 5-2 with a pair of two-man advantage
goals just 47 seconds apart in the second half of the third period.
First, Bova converted from the left side off the rebound of a shot by
freshman forward Pat O'Kane (Hollis N.H./Williston-Northampton) taken
from the right-wing circle. Freshman defenseman Kevin Glanzman
(Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) also tallied an assist at 13:49 on Bova's
first goal of the season. Then, at the 14:36 mark, Retelle fed the puck
to freshman forward Dennis Silvio (Beverly, Mass./Proctor Academy) on
the right side. Silvio sent it back to the point and Retelle rifled the
shot through traffic and into the net for his first goal of the season.
Junior defenseman Adam Gaudreau (Londonderry, N.H./Norwich Univ.)
collected the second assist on the play.

Franklin Pierce capped the scoring with seven seconds to play when
Woodring scored his second of the game from the right side off an assist
from junior defenseman Kyle Kruse (Bourne, Mass./Bourne)

Assumption held a slim, 25-24 advantage in shots on goal over the full
60 minutes. Junior goaltender Jon Tuttle (Concord, N.H./Concord) made 23
saves to earn the victory in net for Franklin Pierce. Junior Jamie
DiGiulio (Peabody, Mass./Tilton School) started and took the loss while
making 11 saves against 14 shots over the opening 28:18 for Assumption.
Freshman Nick Blanchette (Stuart, Fla./Worcester Academy) played the
final 31:42 between the pipes for the Greyhounds and made seven saves
against 10 shots.

The Ravens (1-1-1, 1-0-0 Northeast-10, 1-0-1 ECAC Northeast) return to
the ice on Saturday, Nov. 22, when they travel to Salve Regina for an
ECAC Northeast Conference contest. Faceoff is scheduled for 3:15 at
Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink in Portsmouth, R.I. Franklin Pierce next plays
at home on Friday, Dec. 12 against Saint Michael's at 7 p.m. Assumption
(1-2-0, 0-1-0 Northeast-10, 0-1-0 ECAC Northeast) returns to action on
Nov. 18 at Western New England.
