Freshman forward Stacey Hochkins (New Boston, Mich.) scored two goals as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team tied UMass Boston, 4-4, Sunday evening at the Hart Center in ECAC East action. With the tie, the Crusaders are now 3-0-1 overall (3-0-1 ECAC East), while the Beacons are now 2-1-1 (2-1-1 ECAC East).

The Beacons scored first, at the 7:47 mark in the first period, when Kristen Smith tipped the shot by Maria Guanci into the goal to give UMass Boston the 1-0 lead.

UMass Boston took a two-goal lead when Kelly Gillis scored a power play goal at the 5:00-mark in the second period. The Crusaders cut the Beacons' lead in half at the 9:15-mark in the second period when freshman Amy Pfund (Tenafly, N.J.) received a pass from senior Stephanie Couzin (Chicago, Ill.) and scored her first career goal from the top of the slot. Holy Cross closed out the second period down, 2-1.

Holy Cross did not waste any time in the third period and tied the game 2-2 at the 4:54-mark when Hochkins scored a power play goal off an assist from sophomore Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan). The Crusaders then took the lead at the 8:17-mark when junior Katelyn Doherty (Toronto, Ontario) scored Holy Cross' second power play goal of the game. Doherty received a pass at the top of the crease from junior Kathryn Kelley (Deham, Mass) to score the goal. UMass Boston was quick to answer the Holy Cross goal, tying the game 3-3 at the 8:52-mark. Maria Nasta took a pass from Hannah Davis to score the goal.  UMass Boston then took the lead at 15:23 when Jacqui Villani scored an unassisted goal. Hochkins scored her second goal of the evening from just outside the crease at the 16:29-mark to tie the game and force the overtime. Neither team was able to get the puck past the goalies in overtime, resulting in a 4-4 tie.

Holy Cross goalkeeper Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia) had 22 saves at net and is now 1-0-1, while UMass Boston goalkeeper Jami Cudmore, making her first start, had 44 saves and is 0-0-1. Holy Cross outshot UMass Boston 48-26 and went 2-7 on the power play, while UMass Boston went1-3.

The Crusaders return to action at the Hart Center on Friday, Nov. 21, when they take on ECAC East opponent Norwich at 7:00 p.m.
