Marissa McMullan (Haileybury, ON/Chingaucousy) scored her second goal in as many games for Buffalo State (0-4/0-2) in a losing effort as No. 2 Elmira (4-0/2-0) defeated the Bengals, 3-1, in an ECAC West game this afternoon at the Ice Arena.
Elmira scored its first goal on the power play just over six minutes into the first period and added another late in the second to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission. Buffalo State made it a one-goal game with a power play marker of its own, when McMullan scored her second of the season, assisted by Gillian Toneguzzo (Caledonia, ON/McKinnon Park) and Kristen Bozek (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech). The Soaring Eagles answered just under two minutes later with an even strength goal to put the game out of reach.
Elmira peppered the Bengals' goal with 40 shots, compared to Buffalo State's 11. Alyssa Koniar (New Berlin, WI/Univ. School of Milwaukee) made 37 saves for the Bengals.
Buffalo State will travel to Cortland for another pair of ECAC West games on Nov. 14 and Nov.15.
