Cortland defeats Chatham, 4-2

Junior Jeanna Dippel (Mechanicsburg, PA/NAHA) scored a pair of goals to lead the Cortland women's hockey team to a 4-2 win at Chatham Sunday afternoon in ECAC West action. The Red Dragons improved to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference with the win, while the Cougars fell to 1-2 and 1-1.
Senior Maggie Welker (Rochester/Syracuse Stars) recorded a goal and an assist for Cortland, senior Kalee Stoever (Pawling/Pawling Girls) collected a goal and juniors Maggie Henty (Syracuse/Syracuse Stars) and Nicole Ruddy (Utica/Mohawk Valley Herricanes) each chipped in with an assist. Senior goalie Melissa Stern (Shoreham/Long Island Waves) made 29 saves to earn the win between the pipes.
Lauren Campbell and Jacqueline Regan each scored a goal for Chatham and Dawson Bancroft-Short and Alexis Smith collected one assist apiece. Brenn Scott started in goal and made 14 saves, allowing three goals in 34 minutes, 24 seconds before giving way to Sam Hunt, who stopped 12 shots.
Welker gave Cortland a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal just two seconds before the end of the first period. Welker then set up Dippel's power-play goal at 11:35 of the second period. Stoever made it a 3-0 score with another Red Dragon power-play score at 14:24 of the second, assisted by Henty. Dippel netted her second of the game on Ruddy's assist 71 seconds alter to push the lead to 4-0.
Campbell put the Cougars on the scoreboard 25 seconds into the third period, and Regan brought Chatham to within 4-2 at 8:09 of the final stanza. The Cougars pulled Hunt for an extra skater ober the final 1:02 but couldn't get a shot past Stern.
