Fairfield's Greg Downing and Peter Vlahakis Named To MLL All-Star Team

BOSTON - Former Stags Greg Downing and Peter Vlahakis were selected to play in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star Game on July 17. The All-Stars were selected by the League's head coaches, general managers and players.
Downing, a midfielder for the Los Angeles Riptide has been selected to play on the Western Conference All-Star team. The Riptide selected Downing sixth overall in the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft. Downing is putting together a great sophomore season with the Riptide recording 10 goals, three assists, and 11 groundballs through the first 6 games.
Long Island Lizards face-off specialist Peter Vlahakis has been named to the Eastern Conference All-Star team. Vlahakis will be making his first All-Star appearance in his five years in the league. He was named to the 2007 All-Star team, but was unable to play due to injury. Vlahakis has had the top face-off percentage in the league for the past two seasons. This season has been no different, as he is dominating at the face-off x, winning 60.7% of his draws, and grabbing a League leading 51 ground balls.
For the second consecutive year, the MLL All-Star Game will match-up players from the Eastern Conference against their Western Conference counterparts. The All-Star game will take place on Thursday, July 17 at 8:00 PM MT at Denver's INVESCO Field at Mile High. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 with Joe Beninati and Quint Kessenich calling the action.
