2007 ECAC Division III Southeast Football Bowl
Dickinson College 16, Waynesburg College 10 (OT)

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson College football team capped another great season with a dramatic overtime win over Waynesburg in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southeast Bowl on Saturday.

Sophomore fullback Tim Wells (Baltimore, MD/Perry School) scored his second touchdown of the day from five yards out to give the Devils a 16-10 victory.

The teams traded field-goals in the first quarter as Waynesburg's Kyle McBride (Canton, OH/Canton CC) split the uprights from 25 yards out. First-year Gordon Craig (Grove City, PA/Grove City) answered with a 20 yarder with eight seconds remaining in the quarter.

Wells put the Devils in front 10-3 on an 18 yard run, carrying three Yellow Jackets into the endzone. Waynesburg would answer this time with fullback Aaron Davis broke in from the one yard line with 7:54 remaining in the half.

The score would remain tied throughout the second half. Waynesburg was driving in the final minutes before sophomore Michael Maxwell (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) picked-off a pass at his own 12 yard line and returned it to the Dickinson 31.

The Devils started the drive with 33 seconds remaining but after two plays decided to let the clock run out and head to overtime. The Devils won the toss and chose to defend. That decision paid-off as the Devil defense held and the Waynesburg field-goal attempt went wide left.

The Devils found themselves in great shape after Justin Kull (Warminster, PA/William Tenet) hit senior Chis McInerney (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) with a 20-yard strike to the Waynesburg three yard line.

Senior Mike D'Amico (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Friends) was stopped at the five before Wells found a hole on the next play to give the Devils the win.

Kull gave a strong performance at quarterback, replacing All-Conference selection Ian Mitchell (Newtown Square, PA/Malvern Prep), who was injured in last week's game and did not dress. Kull completed 14-of-30 passes for 146 yards.

McInerney caught six passes for 51 yards while sophomore Pat O'Connor (Exton, PA/Downingtown East) covered 80 yards on just four receptions.

Senior punter Aren Johnson (Palmyra, PA/Lower Dauphin) played a major role in the game, pinning the Yellow Jackets inside their own four yard line twice in the second half. He almost had another downed inside the year that slipped into the endzone for a touchback. He averaged 37.3 yards on seven kicks. He ends his career two shy of the all-time attempts record at Dickinson with 214. He is the school record holder for career punting yardage with 7639 yards.

Maxwell was named the game's Most Valuable Player for his effort. He tallied nine tackles, 1.5 for losses, two interceptions and five pass breakups. Senior Eric Dube (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) added 10 tackles, including two-for-losses and broke up two passes.

The Red Devil defense managed to keep the nation's leading rusher, Robert Heller, pretty much in check throughout the game. Heller finished with 157 yards on 39 carries for the day.

Junior quarterback Andy Lauterbach (Pittsburgh, PA/Brentwood) completed 11-of-27 passes for 145 yards. Aaron Davis (Monongahela, PA/Elizabeth-Forward) caught three passes for 53 yards.

President's Athletic Conference MVP Mike Czerwien (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) and Brendon Steele (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) each had a game-high 11 tackles to lead Waynesburg.

The Red Devils finish the season 9-2 overall while the Yellow Jackets end 8-3 on the season.
