ECAC Announces Division I Field Hockey All-Stars

CAPE COD, Mass. - University of Maryland senior defender Susie Rowe has been chosen as the 2008 ECAC Division I Field Hockey Player of the Year. Rowe received the ACC Defensive Player of the Year honor, as she scored 28 goals and recorded 74 points on the season. Maryland captured its sixth national title, and finished with an overall record of 22-2. Rowe's selection marks the third consecutive season that a defender has been named Player of the Year.
Katie Reinprecht of Princeton has been chosen as the 2008 ECAC Division I Rookie of the Year. Reinprecht was eighth in the nation with 2.39 points per game, as Princeton posted a 17-3 record. She was also named the Ivy League Player of the Year.
The All-ECAC forwards are Katie O'Donnell of
Maryland, Irene Schickhardt from American, Bob Dirks of Boston
College, and Paige Selenski of Virginia. O'Donnell, last year's
ECAC Rookie of the Year scored 21 goals and had 26 assists.
Schickhardt scored 17 goals to go with 11 assists, earning Patriot
League Player of the Year honors. Dirks, a three-time
All-American led BC with 19 goals. Selenski was named Rookie of the
Year in the ACC as well as by womensfieldhockey.com, after totaling
43 points for the season.
Along with Reinprecht at the midfield position are Shannon Taylor
of Syracuse and Michell Simpson from Albany. Taylor ranks first in
the nation in goals per game (1.29) and points per game (3.29). For
the season, she scored 31 goals and had 17 assists. Simpson, now a
junior, receives her third nod onto the All-ECAC team in as many
years.
Joining Rowe as All-ECAC defenders are Melissa Walls of James Madison and Mary Catherine Kinnerman of Temple. Walls, the CAA Defensive Player of the Year tallied eight assists for the Owls. Kinnerman was the Defensive Player of the Year for the Atlantic 10, registered six assists on the season.
Kelsey Cutchins of James Madison University was voted as the All-ECAC Goalkeeper of the Year. She was first in the nation with a 0.72 goals against average, allowing just 15 goals in 21 games. She led JMU to a 18-3 record and its third straight Colonial Athletic Association title.
