Westminster College Selected as Top Seed in 2007 ECAC Division III Southern Softball Championship

CAPE COD, Massachusetts (May 8, 2007) - Westminster College has been selected the top seed in the 2007 ECAC Division III Southern Softball Championship.   Westminster enters the tournament with an overall record of 24-13 and a first place finish in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.  The tournament is a six-team field with play-in round, semifinal and championship rounds.  The teams selected are members of the Allegheny Mountain Conference, New Jersey Athletic Conference, Pennsylvania Athletic Conference and the Presidents' Athletic Conference. 

In the play-in round, No. 1 Westminster and No. 2 La Roche College will receive byes to the semifinals.  On Saturday, No. 3 seed Washington & Jefferson College will play No. 6 seed Kean University, and  No. 4 seed Penn State-Behrend will play No. 5 seed Neumann College.

The semifinal and championship will feature a double elimination format at La Roche College.  Game 1 will feature No. 1 Westminster versus the winner of No. 4 Penn State-Behrend/No. 5 Neumann game.  Game 2 will have No. 2 La Roche face the winner of No. 3 Washington & Jefferson/No. 6 Kean game.  In Game 3 the loser of Game 1 will play the loser of Game 2.  Game 4 will have the winner of Game 1 vs. the winner of Game 2.  In Game 5 the winner of Game 3 will play the loser of Game 4.  Game 6 will be the championship game with the winner of Game 4 playing the winner of Game 5.  Game 7, if necessary, will feature the Game 6 winner versus the Game 6 loser.

The championship game will feature the two semifinal winners.
