2007 Men's Division III Metro Basketball Championship
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Led by Most Valuable Player, senior Daniel
Falcon, the New York University men's basketball team defeated
Richard Stockton College 58-55 in the finals of the Eastern College
Athletic Conference Division III Metro Championship on Saturday
night at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
Falcon finished with game highs of 22 points and 13 rebounds in
the final game of his collegiate career.
In a tightly-contested game in which neither team led by more than
seven points, junior Charlie Parker's three-pointer with 6:55
remaining broke a 41-41 tie and gave NYU (22-6) the lead for
good.
However, Richard Stockton (19-10) pulled to within one, 56-55, on
Mario Lancioni's three-point play with 1:12 remaining.
Then, after a couple of missed shots by the Violets, the Ospreys
had the ball in the final seconds with the chance to take the
lead.
However, an offensive foul call on Lancioni with 13 seconds left
gave the ball back to NYU, and senior Matt Basford hit two free
throws with nine seconds left to provide the final margin.
When Jerome Hubbard's last-second three-point attempt fell short,
and senior Jason Boone protected the rebound, the buzzer sounded
and NYU had captured its first-ever ECAC Metro title.
Boone finished with eight points and 11 rebounds for the Violets,
while fellow senior Michael DeCorso added 10 points.
Hubbard led Richard Stockton with 21 points, while Jon Greene had
10 points.
