New Haven, Conn. - Towson University won the 2009 ECAC Division I Women’s Gymnastics Championship today at Yale University’s Payne Whitney Gymnasium. The victory marks the fifth consecutive time that Towson has won the team competition.

New Haven, Conn.- University of Bridgeport finished with an overall score of 191.650 to win the 2009 ECAC Division II Women’s Gymnastics Championship. The hosts from Southern Connecticut State University took second with a score of 187.975 and West Chester University finished third with a score of 178.100.

The 2009 ECAC Division I Women’s Gymnastics Championship will begin tomorrow, Saturday, March 21st at 1:00 p.m. at Yale University’s Payne Whitney Gymnasium. Seven teams will compete for this year’s championship. Those teams include Brown University, Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, Towson University, College of William & Mary, and Yale University.

Penn’s Elise Bowe earned a career high 38.025 in the all-around over the weekend to earn ECAC Division I Women’s Gymnast of the Week honors. Also honored this week were William & Mary’s Kristin Milardo (Rookie), Towson’s Avis Hixon (Specialist), Yale’s Brigitte Kivisto (Co-Coaches Choice) and Kerri Lutfey (Co-Coaches Choice).

The 2009 ECAC Division III Women's Gymnastics Championships was won by Brockport State Saturday, at Ursinus College. The Golden Eagles won with a team score of 189.150. Ithaca College placed second with 187.950, while Cortland State came in third at 184.125.

Temple University’s Katie Canning scored a three career best over the weekend in Alaska to earn ECAC Division I Women’s Gymnastics Gymnast of the Week honors. Other recipients are Towson’s Kacy Catanzaro (Rookie), Yale’s Sarah Hughes (Coaches Choice) and Penn’s Sarah Parsons (Specialist).

Brockport’s Lauren Gildemeyer registered the second highest all-around score in Brockport history over the weekend to earn ECAC Division III Women’s Gymnastics All-Around of the Week honors. Also receiving weekly awards are Wilson’s Laura Beck (Rookie) and Brockport’s Carrie Rock (Specialist).

Christine Haungs of SUNY-Cortland was named ECAC Division III Women’s Gymnastics All-Around Athlete of the Week after scoring a 38.175 over the weekend. Also honored this week are Rhode Island’s Casey Lesieur (Co-Rookie), MIT’s Katie Mingo (Specialist) and MIT’s Leanna Morinishi (Co-Rookie).
